Materials Yak is a superfine luxury fibre that is warmer and softer than merino wool and more breathable than cashmere.
Originally a little-used by-product, yak also represents a more sustainable alternative to comparable materials. The fibres are hand-combed once a year from free-ranging bovine animals living on the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau in Central Asia, and unlike cashmere production, yak herding does not have a harmful impact on the native grassland ecosystem. Our yak yarns are sourced through our partner Shokay, a social enterprise working directly with a cooperative of herders in the Qinghai province of Northwestern China. Their work in the community helps support local development and encourages social entrepreneurship among young people.
