KG NILSON

DESIGN ARKET Nordic Stories will showcase collaborations with independent creators and cultural institutions from the Nordic region. The first chapter is 'The Colours of KG Nilson'.

Spanning over six decades, the paintings of Swedish artist KG Nilson explore the meaning of colours and how they relate to each other in endless combinations. His images are mainly non-figurative but use recognisable symbols and forms to highlight the character of the colour – fictitious maps and aerial perspectives, a simple house, isolated islands and repetitive geometric compositions, with the triangle shape as a recurring theme. They’re pure and exact, almost mathematical, yet tempered by a human warmth which inspires the imagination.

The grid is an essential element of our visual identity. It represents the notion of the archive and is used to organise and display information ranging from the names of plants to fabric weights and different types of materials used in our collections. These nine squares symbolise the separate parts that together form our world, and they are also the areas where we strive to make a difference.
