men The art of the self, with Charlie Porter

Personal definitions of functionality and pleasure are at the core of fashion journalist Charlie Porter’s wardrobe choices. Discover his hand-picked edit for ARKET: a spring-themed curation of knits, shirts and other clothes with a certain energy and intention that, to the writer, feel just right to write and live in.

‘I like to wear shirts in springtime in particular, and I love shirts almost like an outer layer, like a jacket, in the months when we’re transitioning out of winter before the heat really comes. I like them often like an exclamation point, to feel in some way brightening.’

‘I always wear sweaters. I guess a knit, for me, is super functional as a thing to cover my body with. It’s very elemental as a garment. It’s super easy to write in, I find it flattering, I find it easy to wear outside of tradition, in a way – it doesn’t need to fit in any supposed rules. Crew-neck sweaters are basically a T-shirt but in wool and with sleeves, that’s the ease of it.’

People Charlie Porter

If getting dressed every day has inspired some introspection, it is with good reason, and you’re not alone. The work of fashion journalist Charlie Porter builds, in fact, on the idea that what we wear and how we wear it is inherently tied to the way we live.
