Vegan and natural origin

A short guide on how ARKET defines vegan formula, and natural or natural origin on our own cosmetic products.

VEGAN FORMULA

When we label a bath and body product as ‘vegan’, it means that the formula does not contain any ingredients of animal origin, such as beeswax, carmine (a colorant), or lanolin. Vegan cosmetic ingredients can be both natural and synthetic.

We communicate ‘vegan’ only to enable our customers to make an informed decision, if they are looking for products without ingredients of animal origin. We don’t state or imply that a ‘vegan’ formula has a positive impact, or no impact nor that it is less damaging, to the environment than other formulas.

For information on animal testing see H&M Group’s animal testing ban.

NATURAL FORMULA

When we say that our bath and body products are made with ‘natural’ ingredients, or ingredients with a ‘natural origin’, it means that we follow guidelines and methods from ISO 16128 for cosmetic ingredients.

ISO 16128 is an international standard for natural and organic cosmetics. In accordance with the standard, a ‘natural ingredient’ is unchanged from its natural state and a ‘naturally derived ingredient’ has a natural source but has undergone some processing. If processed, the ingredient must retain more than 50% of its original natural structure.

ARKET communicates the percentage of natural origin ingredients per product, to enable our customers to make an informed decision about their purchase. Synthetic ingredients can be included in the formula. We do not state or imply that formulas with ‘natural’ or ‘natural origin’ have a positive impact or no impact, nor that it is less damaging, to the environment than other formulas.

REFILL

When we use the word ‘refill’ for our bath and body products products, it means that the formula can be used to fill the packaging of its associated original product, for the same original purpose.

The refill’s original packaging is refillable (content of the refill is directly poured into the original packaging). Refill products make it possible for the original packaging, as a whole or parts of it, to be reused and valued again.

We do not use ‘refill’ to state or imply that the product has a positive or no impact on the environment, nor that it is less damaging to the environment than other products.
