Indented to be local hideaways for hearty meals or simple coffee breaks, our cafés spaces are designed with the same consideration that goes into our menu. Inspired by simplicity, nature, and the aesthetics of slow living, the concept follows ARKET’s design foundation of everyday beauty – a significant influence on the Nordic modernist movement in the mid-20th century and a cornerstone of the ARKET brand.
The wooden Skedblad chair is a distinctive feature of our cafés and store furnishings. Designed in 1933 by Carl Malmsten, one of the most well-known furniture designers and interior architects in the Nordics, the chair is as simple as can be, consisting of only six pieces, with a soft, oval backrest resembling the bowl of a spoon. A self-taught designer, Carl Malmsten’s ideal was an organic style based on Swedish nature, local materials, and traditional crafts, and he often drew inspiration from historic models. Combining simplicity with timeless elegance and meticulous attention to detail, his Skedblad chair was a reinterpretation of a rustic, hand-carved folk design, originally made from lightweight pine. Today’s version was revived from the archives exclusively for ARKET in 2017, now rendered in solid oak at Tre Sekel in Tibro, a centre for woodworking and furniture design in the southwest of Sweden.

Moments of presence with Mario Milana
Interviews|November 2024
The works of Mario Milana focus on the interaction between the body, mind, and objects. With this approach, the Milan-based furniture designer attempts to integrate the habit of presence into everyday life, looking to expand the meditative practice beyond an assigned time and place. ‘If you have to interact with something both physically and mentally, then you're present in that moment.’
The hidden features of our typeface ARKET Sans
Design|November 2024
Meant to reflect our preference for simplicity, functionality, and longevity, the ARKET logo isn’t a logo but merely the name of the brand set in uppercase in our own bespoke type family, ARKET Sans, which was developed in 2015 by the Icelandic and Danish design duo Or Type.
