Peruvian Pima cotton is considered one of the best cotton species in the world. The techniques of cultivating and weaving cotton have been perfected over the centuries by different cultures in the region.
Grown under optimal natural conditions on the fields of the Piura and Chira valleys in northern Peru, the cotton is hand-picked to prevent damage to the fibres. Besides the possibility to select cotton balls of maximum purity and brightness, manual harvesting also reduces the environmental impact as no machines or chemicals are used in the process.
Conforming to international standards for organic farming, organic Peruvian Pima Cotton is – unlike conventional cotton – grown without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. This preserves the natural richness of the soil and prevents the farmers from being exposed to harmful chemicals.
Pima cotton fibres are distinguished by their extra-long staple length, ranging from 38 to 41 millimetres, excelling other cotton fibres that only grow to between 20 and 32 millimetres.
